John had a long day in the office, from punching out article after article it was good to finally get outside and to remember what the sky looked like, or what it feels to have the bite of wind hit you're face. John took off his black rimmed glasses and placed them in his glasses protector that he keeps in his briefcase. John was starting to get a small headache that was beginning to get more annoying. his hand flew to his temple and his fingers began to massage his temple. What he needed was a good nights rest and Tylenol.
Thank god it was Friday, and he had the weekend off, well at least as far as his knowledge went he had the weekend off. John's mind drifted to his friend Lonny. "I hope she is ok." John hadn't seen her at the office all day. He hoped that she wasn't shacking up with some dude, she probably was.
John wanted to help her. Help her get out of this life of self hate and self destruction. John cared for her, like a little sister, because John was an only child, he always wanted to know what it was like to be looked up to.
Walking across a walkway, John crossed the street, as he stepped up over the curb shifting his brown duster so it fit better on his shoulders, his laptop bag always bunched his jacket.
Maybe he would call Lonny later, just to see if she was ok. John checked his cell phone to make sure that he still had her cell number. Good, it was still there.
Lonny Cell
Yeah, he would call her later.

Lonny had thought about going into the office, but she figured she could just get things done from home today. She didn't like working in an office. It wasn't very appealing to her. Instead she tended to go around town to write, coffee shops, the park, anywhere but a cubicle. She knew that made John worry when she wasn't in when she was supposed to be, but it didn't really phase her that the man worried.
John. She liked him. He was nice to her and he seemed to care about her, but she didn't really know what to do about him. It was starting to get irritating that he was always asking her about where she was and what guy she was with. She felt like she was doing something wrong when she told him about her social life, and she hated that. Lonny hated admitting her need for attention.
The girl looked down at her phone, no calls from anyone. She was bored and it was getting dark. She packed up her laptop at the park and headed out to the streets to walk home. Bad idea, but oh well. Lonny picked up her phone and dialed John's number. Who else would she talk to on that dangerous walk home?

Just as John placed his phone back into his pocket, it rang. A jolly little tune seemed to cut through the thick evening air. Picking it up, he read the name on the display.
Lonny Cell
Speak of the devil, John smiled. it was like they were on the same wavelength or something. Probably not, it was more fun to just think that way. Flipping open the phone John answered: "Hey, Lonny" he sounded genuinely glad to hear her voice. Well of course he was. Night was approaching fast. And more than just bed bugs come out after dark.
"Trying to steer the conversation away from what she was going at the present moment he wanted to know more about how much work she actually got done. "So, How's work coming along? Any new juicy details?" he asked Lonny always seemed to get the good stuff. john still didn't understand why she was only part time. She could make a real difference.
John loved his job, him and Lonny were a great team. 'she would be even grater if she...fixed her..issues' John thought to himself. then in the next breath he was mentally cursing himself for thinking such a thing. like it was her fault or something. John knew all too well in his line of work that there were people who had problems, because of other people. ' Great,' he thought 'now i feel like a complete ass'

"Hey John." And she smiled when she said it. This kid was her friend. She liked, maybe even loved talking to him. He was a good guy, and those were hard to come by. "Um...well not really. I haven't gotten many contacts, but there is this one guy. His name is Charlie." Of course she didn't say his last name. That would be stupid. You never knew who was listening.
"He's in big down here, a brand new guy. Should be easy to make acquaintance with since he doesn't know anyone here yet. But I have to move in quickly or the operation could be corrupted. I didn't have good luck with this one lady. I don't want to compromise anything..."
Lonny paused, while still walking, and then thought of something. "You want to come over tonight and look over the profile? I know it's late so it's ok if you're not up to it. But I have all the information back at my apartment." That's where Lonny liked to work, in her apartment, sometimes. It was better than the office by a mile.
"We can come up with a plan of attack." She smiled, even though no one would see it. Partners in crime. That sounded pretty cool to her.

John smiled, he liked it when they were co-ordinated and took down the baddies. "Sure, I'll meet you there, im not that far, saaaaay 5 minutes?" John let the a be drawn out. Looking around with the phone still to his ear, he caught site of a street name. Champaign. 'hmm, not far' he thought.
"OK see you soon, Lonny" John closed the phone and he placed it back into his pocket. checking his watch it said 7:50 "hmm, not too late we could work for a few hours. actually get something done." he muttered to himself as she readjusted his bag from one shoulder to the other. Lonny was a good girl, but John really did want to save her from a life he knew would be waiting for her. Hanging his head as he walked. "good god I sound like a priest" the thought made John cringe a little.
Religion wasn't one of John's strong points, he's seen too much blood and drugs to suspect otherwise. So he just never brought it up in conversation. Rounding a corner John looked up at the street sign. he was only 2 minutes from Lonny's apartment.

i didn't wanna do it father but i caught him with another woman in the bed i made him so i put him in the grave and now there’s no one left around to get me off when i want it's a drag "Ok." But she knew he'd probably get there before her. She really needed to get him a key to her apartment for times like these so that he didn't have to sit in the dark on the front porch of her building. It would be much easier and safer. John was a pretty sturdy guy, but she couldn't see him standing up well against a season mugger and/or murderer. Just didn't seem like a fair match.
It was dark now. She hadn't noticed the change by time it came. It was as if someone had just shot the lights off. She hugged her back closer to her and started to walk at a faster pace. One more block and she'd be home...less than ten feet to round the corner...and then someone grabbed her. Without warning, she was pulled back into the arms of a stranger, choking her just enough to keep her alive, but still under control.
"Don't scream." They hissed in her ear. She listened. What else would she be able to do?
"What do you want?" She asked him carefully choosing the right inflections.
"You." The man said simply. Then she felt him wrap his other arm around her waste and lift her up, heading towards a car. She didn't know whether to take the shot to escape him or to wait. But before she could decide, she was shoved into the back of the car. She hadn't even seen what it looked like. The man got in quickly, locked the doors and started the car. Lonny quickly made the decision to jump out of the car going 40 miles an hour as soon as he passed her house. She rolled out and onto the cement, scraping her hands and knees. The car stopped and then came back...
